Get Melo Now

Growing up as a Knicks fan in the 90's was a great time. Although they never won a title, (Thanks MJ) they were always a competitive team, had great players, had a great fan base, and a coach who would get involved in fights. Once the 2000s came and Ewing got traded the downward spiral was unreal. Their struggles made me just not want anything to do with the NBA.
This past summer I expected LeBron to join the Knicks. Why wouldn't he want to be the absolute man in the best city in the world? But we all know how that went and we were all pissed off. With the addition of Amare my expectations this year for the Knicks would be that they would be fighting for a 7th or 8th seed in the east. However, they have established themselves as the best of the non tier 1 or tier 2 teams in the east. With all of the Melo trade talks that have been happening all year, times are crazy at the world's most famous arena. Half want Melo, half don't want to break up the core that have brought life back to basketball in nyc. Here's why the deal has to happen...

  • Sure it's a great story that the knicks are back and fans are going to be pleased with whatever happens as long as they make the playoffs. but in ny, you are measured on titles. this team has the looks of a team that will be a constant lower seed in the east, making the playoffs every year but falling to a miami or orlando. fans will become tired of this quicker then most think.
  • When was the last time a team with one all star won a title? In the past ten years, each team to have won the nba championship had at least two all stars on the roster. Amare has done so much already for new york but at this current time as the 6th seed they only sit at one game above .500. He is going to need more help. Chandler and Gallo are good enough role players, but you will never see them make that next step to all star status.
  • And out of those last 10 teams to win the title the featured guard/swingman were as followed. Kobe, Kobe, Tony Parker, Chauncy Billups, Parker, Dwayne Wade, Parker, Paul Pierce, Kobe, Kobe. See a trend there? As important as it to have a dominant big man to fed the ball to down low, you need that guard/swingman who can have the ball in his hands at the end of the game and make a play. You don't want to give Amare the ball at the top of the key and call an isolation for himself to try to win the game. Just won't ever work.

If I am the Knicks right now you call the Nuggets and say who do you want besides Amare (and hopefully Landry Fields) and make the damn deal. A Wilson Chandler is replaceable. A Raymond Felton is replaceable. (We land Melo then we get CP3 or DW8 in 2012) It's time for the knicks to become a great team in the NBA again. Get Melo Now.
